The Lemonhead Ranchu is a beautiful fancy goldfish variety prized for its rounded body, distinctive curved back, lack of a dorsal fin, and prominent head growth known as a wen. The Lemonhead variety features attractive yellow to lemon-coloured head markings that contrast beautifully against the body, giving each fish a distinctive appearance.

Often referred to as one of the most highly regarded fancy goldfish varieties, Ranchu are best viewed in spacious aquariums where their unique body shape and gentle swimming style can be appreciated. As they mature, their body shape, wen, and colouration continue to develop.

Feeding

Provide a high-quality diet specifically formulated for fancy goldfish. Quality sinking pellets or gel foods are excellent staple choices and can be supplemented with suitable vegetables and frozen foods.

Feed smaller portions rather than one large meal and avoid overfeeding. Because Ranchu have compact body shapes, a balanced diet and sensible feeding routine are important for maintaining healthy digestion.

A varied, nutritious diet also helps support healthy growth, wen development, body condition, and vibrant Lemonhead colouration.

Aquarium Care

Lemonhead Ranchu require excellent water quality and spacious aquariums with effective filtration, as goldfish produce a significant amount of waste. Regular partial water changes and routine substrate maintenance are essential.

Provide plenty of open swimming space with gentle to moderate water movement. Avoid excessively strong currents, as the Ranchu's rounded body and lack of a dorsal fin make them less powerful swimmers than streamlined goldfish varieties.

Avoid sharp rocks, rough decorations, and narrow gaps that could damage the fish's body, fins, or wen. The best tank mates are generally other peaceful fancy goldfish with similar swimming and feeding abilities.
