Bloody Marry

Bloody Mary Shrimp are a striking selectively bred variety of Neocaridina davidi , highly sought after for their intense, deep red colouration. Their rich red appearance can range from bright ruby tones through to deep crimson, making them a standout addition to planted aquariums and dedicated shrimp tanks.

These peaceful freshwater shrimp spend much of their time grazing over plants, moss, driftwood, rocks and aquarium surfaces in search of biofilm, algae and microorganisms.

Relatively hardy once established in a mature and stable aquarium, Bloody Mary Shrimp are an excellent choice for both newer shrimp keepers and experienced aquarists looking to establish a colourful breeding colony.

Feeding

Bloody Mary Shrimp naturally graze throughout the aquarium and will consume biofilm, microorganisms, soft algae and small amounts of organic material.

Their diet can be supplemented with:

• Quality shrimp pellets
• Specialised shrimp foods
• Algae wafers
• Spirulina-based foods
• Blanched vegetables
• Indian Almond Leaves and suitable botanicals
• Small amounts of quality fish food

Feed sparingly and remove excessive uneaten food to help maintain excellent water quality.

Aquarium Care

Bloody Mary Shrimp thrive in mature, stable aquariums containing plenty of natural grazing surfaces and hiding areas.

Provide:

• Live aquarium plants
• Mosses
• Driftwood
• Rocks and other hardscape
• Gentle filtration
• Stable water parameters
• Good water quality
• Plenty of biofilm and natural grazing areas

Sponge filters are particularly suitable for shrimp aquariums because they provide gentle filtration while offering additional grazing surfaces and reducing the risk of baby shrimp being drawn into the filter.

Breeding

Bloody Mary Shrimp can readily reproduce when maintained under suitable conditions.

Females carry fertilised eggs beneath their abdomen until miniature, fully formed shrimp hatch.

Dense plants and aquarium mosses provide excellent shelter and grazing areas for newly hatched shrimp.

If maintaining the Bloody Mary colour line is important, avoid mixing them with other Neocaridina colour varieties. Different colour strains can interbreed, potentially producing offspring with unpredictable or wild-type colouration.

Tank Mates

Bloody Mary Shrimp are extremely peaceful but may become food for larger or predatory fish.

They can be kept with carefully selected shrimp-safe inhabitants, peaceful nano species and compatible snails.

For the highest survival rate of baby shrimp, a dedicated shrimp aquarium is recommended, as even many small community fish may eat newly hatched shrimp.

Important Information

Shrimp are sensitive to sudden changes in water chemistry. New shrimp should be carefully acclimated to their aquarium and protected from rapid changes in temperature, pH and hardness.

Always check aquarium medications and treatments before use. Products containing copper or other ingredients harmful to crustaceans may be dangerous to shrimp.

Live Arrival

Please inspect livestock immediately upon arrival. If there is an issue with your shrimp, contact Fins 'N' Feathers as soon as possible and within our applicable live-arrival period, providing clear photos of the shrimp in the unopened transport bag where required.

Live shrimp cannot be returned for change of mind.

Bloody Mary Shrimp are live animals and natural variation should be expected. Individual shrimp may vary in size, sex and red colour intensity. Juveniles may develop stronger colouration as they mature.
