L066 Pleco 3-4cm King tiger

The L066 King Tiger Pleco is a striking freshwater catfish prized for its bold black-and-white striped pattern and intricate maze-like markings. Each individual develops a unique pattern, making the King Tiger Pleco an impressive feature fish for specialised tropical and pleco aquariums.

Unlike common Bristlenose Plecos, the L066 is a Hypancistrus species and is not primarily an algae eater. It requires a protein-rich, varied diet and plenty of caves and hiding areas. King Tiger Plecos are generally peaceful towards other fish but can become territorial with other bottom-dwelling plecos, particularly around preferred caves.

Feeding

L066 King Tiger Plecos should not be purchased primarily for algae control. Their diet should include quality sinking carnivore or omnivore pellets and wafers supplemented with appropriately sized frozen foods.

Suitable foods can include bloodworms, brine shrimp, mysis, insect-based foods, and other protein-rich aquarium foods. Some vegetable-based foods can also be offered as part of a varied diet.

Feed during the evening or shortly after the aquarium lights are turned off to ensure the pleco has an opportunity to feed without competition from more active daytime fish.

Aquarium Care

Provide plenty of caves, rocks, driftwood, and sheltered areas. Pleco caves are particularly important, especially when keeping multiple L066, as individual fish may establish territories around preferred hiding places.

Strong biological filtration, good oxygenation, and regular partial water changes are essential. King Tiger Plecos appreciate warm, clean water with moderate circulation.

They can be kept with many peaceful tropical community fish that thrive under similar warm-water conditions. When keeping multiple plecos, provide several caves and visual barriers to help minimise territorial disputes.

The L066 is known for its contrasting black-and-white patterning, which can range from defined stripes to more irregular maze-like markings. No two individuals are exactly alike.

Pattern thickness, colour contrast, body shape, and overall appearance can vary between individual fish and may change somewhat as they mature.
