Blue dream

Blue Dream Cherry Shrimp are a stunning selectively bred variety of Neocaridina davidi , prized for their rich blue colouration and peaceful nature. Their deep blue tones can range from vibrant royal blue through to darker navy shades, making them an eye-catching addition to planted aquariums and dedicated shrimp tanks.

These active little shrimp spend much of their day grazing across plants, driftwood, rocks and aquarium surfaces. They feed on biofilm, algae and small amounts of organic material, making them an interesting and useful addition to a mature freshwater aquarium.

Blue Dream Shrimp are relatively easy to care for once established in a stable aquarium, making them suitable for both newer shrimp keepers and experienced aquarists.

Feeding

In a mature aquarium, Blue Dream Shrimp will naturally spend much of their time grazing on biofilm, algae and microorganisms.

Their diet can be supplemented with:

• Quality shrimp pellets
• Algae wafers
• Spirulina-based foods
• Blanched vegetables
• Specialised shrimp foods
• Indian Almond Leaves and other suitable botanicals
• Small amounts of quality fish food

Feed sparingly. Uneaten food can quickly affect water quality, particularly in smaller shrimp aquariums.

Aquarium Care

Blue Dream Shrimp thrive in mature, stable aquariums with plenty of surfaces for grazing and hiding.

Provide:

• Live aquarium plants
• Mosses
• Driftwood
• Rocks and other hardscape
• Gentle filtration
• Stable water parameters
• Good water quality
• Plenty of biofilm and natural grazing surfaces

Sponge filters are particularly useful in shrimp tanks because they provide gentle filtration while creating additional grazing surfaces and reducing the risk of baby shrimp being drawn into the filter.

Breeding

Blue Dream Shrimp can readily breed in suitable freshwater aquarium conditions.

Females carry fertilised eggs beneath their abdomen until fully formed miniature shrimp hatch. Providing mosses, dense plants and other hiding areas gives young shrimp additional protection and grazing opportunities.

Avoid keeping different Neocaridina colour varieties together if maintaining the Blue Dream colour line is important. Crossbreeding between colour varieties can result in offspring displaying less predictable colouration, including wild-type patterns.

Tank Mates

Blue Dream Shrimp are peaceful but may be eaten by larger or predatory fish.

Suitable tank mates may include carefully selected peaceful nano species, snails and other shrimp-safe inhabitants.

For the best survival rate of baby shrimp, a dedicated shrimp aquarium is recommended, as even many small community fish will eat newly hatched shrimp.

Important Information

Shrimp are particularly sensitive to sudden changes in water conditions. Acclimate new shrimp carefully and avoid rapid changes in temperature, pH or hardness.

Take extra care with aquarium medications and treatments containing copper or other ingredients harmful to crustaceans. Always confirm that a product is shrimp-safe before use.

Please inspect livestock immediately upon arrival. If there is an issue with your shrimp, contact Fins 'N' Feathers as soon as possible and within our applicable live-arrival period, providing clear photos of the shrimp in the unopened transport bag where required.

Live shrimp cannot be returned for change of mind.

Blue Dream Cherry Shrimp are live animals and natural variation should be expected. Individual shrimp may vary in size, sex, pattern and blue colour intensity. Juveniles may also develop stronger colouration as they mature.
