Green Mystery Snail - Small

The Green Mystery Snail is an attractive freshwater aquarium snail known for its unique green to olive-toned shell and peaceful, active nature. Small juvenile Green Mystery Snails are an excellent addition to planted and community aquariums, adding interesting colour and character while exploring the glass, substrate, plants, driftwood, and decorations.

Mystery Snails are active scavengers that graze on soft algae, leftover fish food, biofilm, and decaying plant material. While they can assist with general aquarium clean-up, they still require regular feeding and should not be expected to survive solely on algae or aquarium waste.

Feeding

Provide a varied diet including quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, and suitable vegetables such as zucchini, green beans, spinach, and other aquarium-safe vegetables.

Calcium and minerals are particularly important for juvenile Mystery Snails as their shells develop. Ensure the aquarium has adequate mineral content and provide a suitable calcium source when required to support strong, healthy shell growth.

Aquarium Care

Maintain stable water parameters and good water quality through regular partial water changes. Avoid sudden changes in temperature, pH, or water chemistry, particularly with smaller juvenile snails.

A secure aquarium lid is recommended, as Mystery Snails are capable climbers and may escape from uncovered aquariums. Mature females also naturally climb above the waterline when preparing to lay their egg clutches.

Avoid aquarium medications and treatments containing copper unless specifically confirmed as safe for aquatic snails, as copper can be highly toxic to invertebrates.

Colour & Appearance

Green Mystery Snails can display variations in shell colour from green and olive through to darker earthy tones. Colour and pattern may become more noticeable as the snail grows.

Each snail is naturally unique, and shell colour, pattern, body colour, and size can vary between individuals.
