Forktail Blue eyes

The Forktail Blue Eye is a beautiful small freshwater rainbowfish known for its brilliant blue eyes, bright yellow fins, and distinctive forked tail. Its active swimming behaviour and striking colouration make it an eye-catching addition to planted and peaceful tropical community aquariums.

Forktail Blue Eyes are social fish that look their best when maintained in groups. Males develop particularly attractive finnage and will regularly display to females and other males. Their relatively small adult size also makes them an excellent option for smaller planted aquariums.

Feeding

Forktail Blue Eyes have relatively small mouths and should be provided with appropriately sized foods. A quality micro pellet, small tropical granule, or finely crushed flake can form the staple diet.

Supplement regularly with small frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and other appropriately sized foods. A varied diet helps support healthy growth, strong finnage, breeding condition, and vibrant yellow and blue colouration.

Aquarium Care

A well-planted aquarium with plenty of open swimming space is ideal. Plants, driftwood, and other natural features can be positioned around the sides and rear of the aquarium while leaving open areas for the group to swim and display.

Forktail Blue Eyes appreciate clean, well-oxygenated water with gentle to moderate circulation. Good filtration and regular partial water changes will help maintain excellent water quality.

They are generally excellent community fish and are best housed with similarly sized peaceful species. Avoid large or aggressive fish and persistent fin-nippers.

A secure aquarium lid is strongly recommended, as Blue Eyes are active fish and capable jumpers.
