Elodea - Bunch

Elodea is a popular and fast-growing freshwater aquarium plant known for its long green stems and dense foliage. Supplied as a bunch, it is an excellent choice for adding instant greenery, height, and natural cover to tropical and cool-water aquariums.

Its rapid growth makes Elodea particularly useful for absorbing excess nutrients from the water while providing valuable shelter for fish, shrimp, and fry. It can be planted into the substrate or allowed to float, making it a versatile option for community aquariums, breeding tanks, goldfish setups, and planted aquascapes.

Planting & Maintenance

Elodea can be planted directly into the aquarium substrate by carefully inserting the lower portion of each stem. Separate the stems slightly rather than planting the entire bunch tightly together, allowing light and water to circulate around each plant.

Alternatively, the stems can be left floating, where they will continue to grow and provide additional cover near the water's surface.

Because Elodea is fast growing, regular trimming may be required. Healthy trimmed sections can be replanted to create additional plants and increase the density of the bunch.

Aquarium Benefits

The dense foliage provides excellent hiding areas for juvenile fish, fry, shrimp, and other small aquarium inhabitants. Its fast growth can also help utilise nutrients such as nitrate from the aquarium water.

Elodea works particularly well as a background plant and can quickly create a lush, established appearance in new aquariums.
