Planting

Remove the Amazon Sword carefully from its 5cm pot and gently remove the growing material from around the roots.

• Avoid burying the entire crown
• Allow sufficient space around the plant for future growth
• Use a nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs where appropriate

Amazon Swords develop extensive root systems and appreciate a reasonable depth of aquarium substrate.

Fertilisation

Amazon Swords are heavy root-feeding plants and benefit significantly from nutrients available within the substrate.

For strong, healthy growth, consider:

• Nutrient-rich aquarium substrate
• Aquarium root tabs
• Complete aquarium plant fertiliser
• Iron and micronutrients where required
• CO₂ supplementation in higher-demand planted setups

Yellowing, pale or deteriorating leaves can sometimes indicate inadequate nutrients, although changes in water conditions and normal adaptation should also be considered.

Growth & Maintenance

Under suitable conditions, Amazon Swords can develop into relatively large plants.

Regular maintenance may include:

• Removing old or damaged leaves
• Trimming leaves close to the base when required
• Providing additional root fertilisation
• Keeping surrounding plants from excessively shading the Sword
• Performing regular partial water changes

Avoid repeatedly uprooting established Amazon Swords, as they develop substantial root systems and generally perform best when left undisturbed.
