L144 Pleco Blue Eye Lemon

The L144 Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco is a striking freshwater catfish known for its beautiful lemon-yellow body, contrasting blue to dark-coloured eyes, and distinctive bristles that develop around the head, particularly in mature males. Its bright colouration and peaceful personality make it an impressive addition to planted and tropical community aquariums.

Unlike albino Bristlenose varieties, which typically have red or pink eyes, the L144 Blue Eye Lemon is recognised for its darker blue-toned eyes combined with its pale yellow to lemon body colour. Like other Bristlenose Plecos, it remains relatively compact and spends much of its time grazing across driftwood, rocks, aquarium glass, and decorations.

Feeding

Although L144 Bristlenose Plecos will graze on algae and biofilm, they should not be expected to survive on aquarium algae alone.

Provide a varied diet consisting of quality algae wafers, spirulina-based foods, sinking catfish pellets, and suitable vegetables such as zucchini and green beans. Occasional protein-rich foods can also be offered as part of a balanced diet.

Feeding shortly before or after the aquarium lights are turned off can be beneficial, as Bristlenose Plecos often become more active during the evening.

Aquarium Care

Provide plenty of hiding areas using caves, driftwood, rocks, and live plants. Driftwood is an excellent addition, providing natural grazing surfaces, shelter, and enrichment.

Good filtration and regular partial water changes are important, as Bristlenose Plecos can produce a significant amount of waste. Ensure adequate oxygenation and maintain stable water conditions.

L144 Blue Eye Lemons are generally compatible with peaceful community fish, shrimp, and other non-aggressive aquarium inhabitants. Mature males may become territorial towards other male Bristlenose Plecos, particularly around preferred caves.

Colour & Appearance

The L144 Blue Eye Lemon is prized for its bright yellow to lemon colouration and contrasting eyes. Colour intensity can vary between individual fish and may change depending on age, genetics, diet, stress, lighting, and aquarium conditions.

Mature males generally develop more prominent bristles around the snout and head, while females typically have fewer, shorter bristles or may have very little visible bristling.
